Method and apparatus for eliminating the danger of inadvertent failure of a weight-bearing retraction system, such as a dryer hood retraction system. A load lifted using a fluid cylinder (20) can be easily locked in place against gravity by using a double rod ended cylinder (30), where the rod end (30") not exerting the force is permitted to move through a clearance hole while the load is being lifted, and is then blocked to prevent the return motion until the load is to be released.

Procédé et appareil destinés à supprimer le risque de défaillance intempestive d'un système de retrait supportant un poids tel qu'un système de retrait de hotte de sécherie. Une charge soulevée à l'aide d'un vérin hydraulique (20) peut être facilement maintenue en place, contre l'effet de pesanteur, à l'aide d'un vérin (30) présentant une extrémité à double embout. L'embout (30") n'exerçant pas de force peut se déplacer dans un trou de passage alors que la charge est soulevée, et est ensuite bloqué pour empêcher le mouvement de retour jusqu'à ce que la charge soit relâchée.
